Unfortunately a lot of these people who are on the verge of graduating are facing tremendous hardships in getting internships and permanent jobs. On the other hand people who planned to come to the US for education are thinking of alternative Countries that have good educational records and almost the same opportunities or better ;like Singapore and Australia. The recession has taken a toll on the revenue received from universities. Education could be looked at as a substitution good with an inelastic demand, since people will not stop studying if their means go down, they will just move on to the next best option that will fulfill their needs(in most cases). The United States loss in this aspect has been Australia and other such countries gain. Web sites like US News etc. are doing their best to increase the demand for education in the US but it seems like even people from the US are looking for cheaper options abroad.
This is statistical information that shows how colleges have used up much of their "rainy day" savings and are now forced to increase tuition and other expenses to compensate for this shortage. They have also had major budget cuts etc. Putting all this in to perspective a foreign student with the enough spending power for education in the US would much rather use this money and maybe save a little by getting educated somewhere else. Hence the supply of education is more than the demand and this has created tremendous deficit which will be hard to overcome in the near future with more competition from other countries.
