Well finally yesterday i was able to put econ 501 to use!

So i was working at (plug) your friendly neighborhood autozone discount auto parts store, when i was introduced to the new guy. Turns out he trasnferred in from another autozone. He's a pretty chillaxed guy and not a complete waste of resources as are most people i have the luck to work with. Well during closing we were talking about stocks and the economy and all that. Well one thing led to another and we started talking about our pay. Relectantly he gave it up. He says he makes 38.5k a year. He says that's what they offered him to stay with autozone. He said he was offered a job with discount tire at 32k for the first 90 days, then 22k every 90 days after that plus commission. I said "um are you stupid?" Grantd he does drive an 08 mazda 3 non-turbo (pifff..pansy). He said well autozone is a garunteed paycheck, and tire discounters is an Ohio thing without the possibility of relocation. Furthermore its family owned so it may go under without warning nowadays. Autozone has excellent health care benefits too.Then K******** popped in my head. Well i told myself I'll be damned. We just learned about estimated values in class today..well yesterday (this took place at 9:30pm). I grabbed my calculator from my truck and started doing some math.

With the health care factored in his salary comes to 46K a year per say. The other job is 32+22(3)=98k. if they go under he will make $0, or leach off of welfare, but he;s not that kind of guy. Now i kept out commission because its a variable i can't accuratly pinpoint. Now i used K*'s utiles table from slide 10.

Autozone: U(46,000)=210 "utiles"

Tire Discounters: .5xU(0)+.5xU(98000)=.5(0)+.5(300)=150 utiles.

The results were mind blowing actually. You see, it doesn't make sence...would you take a job that pays 98k plus commission a year or the 46k a year job?? Well being that viability of Tire Discounters may be in question in the future i guess i, the pulloting, seal killing, ice cap melting diesel pickup owner is the dumb one. Sigh, i think I'm going to go race a Mustang GT and make myself feel better that my 8k pound truck can beat a sports car.

P.S. I did this experiment just now on what i get paid at autovat as compared to what i make on the stock markets...turns out i'm better off making the green on the market. I knew that but now I'm addicted to this equation. I wonder how well it would work on Barack Obama's stimulus package.....hmmm. K* where are youuuuu?
